Last week, the Houston Bar Association (HBA) participated in the 2019 Law Day by sending lawyers into the schools to read our book, THE NANTUCKET SEA MONSTER: A FAKE NEWS STORY. They read to 101 schools in 22 districts and private schools across Harris County, Texas
This year’s theme was “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society.” The book is a real historical event that was reported as news, even though the newspapermen knew it wasn’t true. It’s also a nonpolitical story, so it allows a discussion of fake news and free press without having to discuss politics. The HBA sent about 100 lawyers into the schools to read, and afterwards donated to the book to the school library. Below are some photos of the lawyers reading to kids.
